Gerus’s family is in the crosshairs: SBU to check their ties with Russia

Natalia Gerus, the wife of MP from the Servant of the People party and chairman of the Energy Committee Andriy Gerus, had business ties with sanctioned Russian businessman Kirill Dmitriev until the spring of 2025. This fact was confirmed in a document of the Security Service of Ukraine published on the Access to Truth portal, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

In response to a request from journalists regarding the Gerus family’s ties to Dmitriev, the SBU noted that this information had already been considered within its official competence, and although it was not public, the relevant units had already taken the situation into account. If they find legitimate grounds, the SBU promises to respond.

In other words, the SBU has confirmed that it is aware of possible business ties between the MP’s wife and a sanctioned Russian businessman and does not rule out further intervention if the situation is properly qualified.

Business under sanctions: how MP Gerus’s wife did business with Putin’s negotiator for three years

In the summer of 2025, it became known about the ties between the family of a Ukrainian MP and a sanctioned Russian official. The information caused a wide resonance and became a subject of interest to the SBU.

It is about Natalia Gerus, the wife of Andriy Gerus, the chairman of the parliamentary energy committee, and her business ties to Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian official and negotiator close to Vladimir Putin.

According to Glavkom and UA.News, Natalia Gerus was a co-owner of Ukrainian Dream LLC, which until 2022 operated in the advertising segment and, as it turned out, had Kirill Dmitriev among its founders. This business relationship continued throughout the three years of full-scale war, despite the fact that Dmitriev has been under sanctions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the EU since 2022.

At the time of the cooperation, Dmitriev was the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and was the Kremlin’s informal economic negotiator with Western business representatives. In 2025, he was officially granted the status of Putin’s special representative for economic contacts.

Open registers indicate that until the spring of 2022, Natalia Gerus was the ultimate beneficiary and director of the Ukrainian Dream company, after which she withdrew from the company and changed its management. However, it is the fact that business ties with the Russian side continued after the outbreak of the war that causes outrage in society and concern among the expert community.

The situation attracts attention not only as a potential violation of the sanctions regime, but also as an example of a conflict of interest and political irresponsibility. After all, Andriy Gerus, elected from the Servant of the People party, heads the relevant energy committee of the Verkhovna Rada, a body that has a direct impact on regulatory policy, including in the field of strategic energy imports and exports.

Against the backdrop of ongoing discussions about de-oligarchization, de-offshoring, and strengthening sanctions discipline, this situation undermines trust in government institutions and calls into question the sincerity of anti-corruption rhetoric.
