Rosh Hashanah in Uman: MFA gives advice to Hasidic pilgrims

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on Hasidic pilgrims planning to make a Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman in September to take into account the lack of guarantees of full security for foreign citizens in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has issued an official warning to Hasidic pilgrims who plan to visit the city of Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah.
The ministry emphasized that in the context of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for more than three years, and regular missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, there are real threats to human life and safety.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs: it is impossible to guarantee security
The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that it is currently impossible to provide full protection for foreign citizens arriving in Ukraine.
Nevertheless, if pilgrims decide to come to Uman, they should take into account the special conditions in the country.
Conditions of martial law
The legal regime of martial law continues to be in effect in Ukraine, which provides for a number of restrictions:
- restrictions on freedom of movement;
- introduction of a curfew;
- intensified patrolling;
- prohibition of mass events and gatherings;
- application of coercive measures to persons who violate the established rules.
Other risk factors
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs draws the attention of pilgrims to additional circumstances that may complicate the pilgrimage:
- congestionof land transport and possible traffic delays due to shelling of infrastructure;
- lack of civil defenseshelters in places of mass gathering of pilgrims in Uman;
- limited medical capacities – insufficient medical staff and hospitals to serve a large number of visitors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that pilgrims should take the utmost care when planning a trip in times of war and take into account all the risks associated with the security situation in the country.
This year, the celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, will take place from the evening of September 22 to the evening of September 24.
According to the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, about 35 thousand Hasidic pilgrims are expected in Uman this year for Rosh Hashanah 5786.
On Monday, September 15, a special regime of entry and exit and movement of citizens in Uman is in effect due to the Hasidic pilgrimage.
