Russia attacked the Bandera monument in the center of Lviv: video
15 January 08:59
On the night of January 15, Russian occupiers attacked Lviv with drones. One of the combat drones hit the very center of the city, causing damage to civilian infrastructure. This was reported by the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maxim Kozytsky , and the mayor of the city , Andriy Sadovyi, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The epicenter of the explosion was a playground on Stepan Bandera Street, located next to the monument of the same name.
As of 8:35 a.m., there were no reports of casualties or injuries.
The blast wave hit a tractor driver who was clearing snow at the time, but according to the mayor, the man is fine.
“The shock wave blew out windows in nearby buildings, including the polytechnic building (Lviv Polytechnic National University – ed.) and residential buildings,” Sadovyi said.
He called the location where the drone fell “symbolic,” hinting that the Russians are targeting what they fear most. All relevant services are already working at the site of the strike.
Due to the Russian attack, Mitropolit Andriy and Sheptytsky streets in Lviv have been temporarily closed. Private and public transport is currently not running here. Trolleybus routes No. 27, No. 32, and No. 38 are not running due to the closure, Sadovyi added.
The Bandera monument is located on Kropyvnytskyi Square (entrance to Stepan Bandera Street). It was unveiled in October 2007.
The 4-meter-high monument is complemented by a 30-meter triumphal arch on four columns, each symbolizing a specific period of Ukrainian statehood (the princely era, the Cossacks, the Ukrainian People’s Republic/Western Ukrainian People’s Republic, and modern independence).
This place is a traditional venue for patriotic events in Lviv.
