Russia will be forced to write off hundreds of aircraft due to sanctions

Russia’s Rosaviation will be forced to get rid of 340 passenger airliners. In particular, this applies to modern versions of the “import-substituted” Sukhoi Superjet aircraft.

This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. The newly built airplanes turned out to be dependent on foreign parts and spare parts, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Russia is losing civil aviation

As it became known, the SSJ-100s equipped with French SaM146 engines, which Russian airlines can no longer officially service due to sanctions, are being used by Russian airlines. The aircraft’s control systems and landing gear are failing, and repairs are supported only by “donor” spare parts.

the “import-substituted” version, the SSJ-NEW, which requires the repair of 64 units, has not been certified: the modernization deadline has been postponed to 2026, but without guarantees and without any forecasts for mass production.

The MS-21 medium-haul airplane was ready for mass production, but after the start of aggression against Ukraine, the project was halted due to the use of American Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines.

The MS-21-310 version, which was supposed to replace 70 western components, is still being finalized: the de-icing system, toilet module, collision warning, weather radar, and power supply need to be replaced, which Russian manufacturers failed to do. At the same time, the range of the aircraft has been reduced from 6,400 to 3,830 km.

In particular, the replacement of the outdated An-24 and An-26 aircraft was also postponed. And the Baikal special project, which was supposed to replace the An-2, was declared unsuccessful, although funding continues.

Rosaviatsiya head Dmitry Yadrov predicts that 340 aircraft will be decommissioned by 2030, 230 domestic and 109 imported. Now they will include SSJ models, which were dominated by foreign components.
