Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Russia plans to recruit an additional 409,000 troops in 2026.
“This means one thing: the enemy is not abandoning its intentions and continues to prepare for further aggression against Ukraine,” Syrskyi wrote on Telegram on March 19, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, as weather conditions improve, there has been an increase in enemy activity on the front lines.
Syrskyi reported that he held an operational meeting regarding the state of engineering equipment along the defensive lines.
“Among the key tasks are strengthening fortifications, developing anti-drone defenses, and preparing settlements for defense,” he stated.
Last November, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin signed laws that effectively allowed for continuous conscription into the Russian army and the mobilization of reservists to defend critical infrastructure.
The U.S. Institute for the Study of War, analyzing statements by Russian officials, said last month that the Kremlin is preparing to conduct “limited reserve call-ups” in the future to meet Russia’s needs for manpower in its armed forces, given significant losses on the battlefield.
