2 January 00:56

On the evening of January 1, Russian troops launched a massive drone attack on Zaporizhzhia. The city experienced several waves of attacks by Shahed-type kamikaze drones. The attack resulted in at least two fires, the regional authorities reported. The head of the Zaporizhzhya regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, informed about the consequences of the shelling, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Prior to the strikes, an air alert was declared in the region due to the threat of attack drones. According to the head of the regional military administration, Russian drones changed their routes throughout the evening, but most of them were headed for the regional center.

At around 23:45, the first fire in the city was reported.

“Russians are hitting the regional center. There is a fire. The air raid alert continues. Stay in safe places,” Fedorov wrote.

After midnight, the head of the region reported another fire that broke out as a result of a second wave of attacks. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.

Situation at night

As of 00:12, no enemy UAVs were observed over Zaporizhzhia.

Relevant services were working at the scene of the fire, and information on the extent of the damage is being clarified.

Not the first attack in a day

This is not the first attack on the city in a short period of time. The day before, on December 31, the Russian military attacked Zaporizhzhia twice. A multi-story residential building was damaged and one person was injured. There were also reports of attacks on industrial infrastructure, which caused several fires.

Russia continues targeted attacks on Ukraine’s frontline regions, using attack drones to put pressure on civilians and critical infrastructure.
