Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles at night: how air defense reacted

On the night of January 5, Russian troops launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, using ballistic and anti-aircraft guided missiles, as well as a large number of attack drones. This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
What the enemy attacked with
According to the military, from 18:00 on January 4, the enemy launched:
- 9 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles from the territory of the Bryansk and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation;
- 165 Shahed, Gerbera and other types of attack UAVs from the directions of Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo and Orel.
About 100 drones out of the total number were Shaheds.
How the air defense worked
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 08:00, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 137 enemy UAVs in the north, central and eastern regions of the country.
At the same time, the following were recorded
- missiles and 26 attack drones hit at 10 locations;
- the falling of the wreckage of downed targets at 9 more locations.
The attack continues
The Air Force noted that the air threat remains relevant as of this morning, with several more enemy drones in Ukrainian airspace.
Citizens are urged not to ignore air raid warnings and to follow safety rules.
Strike on Kyiv
Separately, it was reported that on January 5, Russian drones attacked Kyiv.
A medical center in the capital was damaged, with one person killed and others injured. Information on the consequences is being clarified.
