Russia attacks energy sector again: power outages in four regions

3 March 10:46

On the night of March 3, Russia launched another series of strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As a result of the attacks, consumers in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions were left without power. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

Which regions were affected

According to the ministry, the shelling damaged energy facilities and power lines in four regions:

  • Donetsk region
  • Dnipropetrovsk region
  • Sumy region
  • Chernihiv region

Due to the damage, some consumers were left without electricity.

Energy workers are working hard to restore power to homes and critical infrastructure as quickly as possible.

Hourly power outage schedules

The Ministry of Energy noted that in some regions of Ukraine, the following are in effect:

  • hourly power outage schedules for the population;
  • power restriction schedules for industry.

Up-to-date information on outages is published by regional distribution system operators on their official websites and social media accounts. Consumers are urged to follow only verified sources.

Why are there prolonged outages?

Massive attacks on the power grid, generation shortages, and difficult weather conditions have led to a transition to a 4.5–5-stage power outage regime. Under such conditions, power outages can exceed 16 hours per day.

Despite the difficult situation, energy companies are continuing restoration work and gradually restoring power to the affected areas.

Is it possible to return to a stable schedule?

Experts note that stabilizing the situation depends on:

  • the security situation;
  • the absence of new massive attacks;
  • the volume of emergency repairs and electricity imports;
  • weather conditions and consumption levels.

At the same time, the authorities emphasize the need for economical consumption of electricity during peak hours.
