Journalist: Russians attack northern entrances to Kherson and take the city in a “drone ring”

25 July 10:36

In July, Russian troops sharply intensified drone strikes on the Kherson-Mykolaiv highway, which remains a key route for the northern outskirts of the regional center. This was written by Ivan Antypenko, a Kherson correspondent for Suspilne TV, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The journalist warns that the city is gradually being surrounded by drones, and the attacks are covering more and more territories on the right bank.

“This is a drone-burned car on the Kherson-Mykolaiv highway. And this is very bad news,”

– Antipenko writes, posting a photo of the results of another attack. He emphasizes that this road is one of the main arteries used by residents and humanitarian services moving to and from the city.

According to the journalist, Russian troops have been actively shelling sections of the road since July.

“They have already burned a truck and hit several civilian vehicles,”

– he states. Antypenko notes that the enemy is apparently trying to take control of the road, as well as a number of other areas:

“A large section of the Maryanske-Beryslav road or the road to Snihurivka is already under their control.”

According to him, this means the loss of a significant part of the right bank of the Kherson region, primarily in terms of civilian activity. He cites examples from the agricultural sector:

“Some farmers have not been able to harvest the crops they sowed last fall or spring. Lightning, large FPVs and occasional rocket artillery have burned several fields and combines.”

The situation in Kherson itself is also escalating. Antypenko recalls the strikes of the KABs on the city center, after which “FPVs were circling over the epicenter”. According to him, this has already become a typical Russian tactic: after a powerful strike, corrective or finishing drones continue to strike.

“There is no area in the city where drones do not reach,”

– the journalist says, adding that the surrounding villages are also under constant fire.

Are the authorities doing enough?

Against this backdrop, he emphasizes the systemic failures in protecting the city and its highways:

“The city and the roads to it are not protected in any way. The simplest thing is that there are no FPV nets that could be stretched on key streets and highways.”

Antypenko reminds that massive drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in the coastal part of Kherson region began last year in June-July.

“We had more than a year to react and calculate a possible scenario where the enemy expands the UAV attack zone,”

– he said.

Despite the availability of electronic warfare equipment and mobile groups operating in the city, the journalist emphasizes that this is not enough.

“Today, Kherson is actually being taken into a drone ring, and it is becoming more and more dangerous to enter, leave and stay there,”

– ivan Antypenko summarizes.
