“Russians are trying to encircle the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donetsk region” – Snegiryov

Some Ukrainian media outlets quoted Bild analyst Julian Röpke as saying that Ukrainian troops in Donetsk region are facing a new danger. The Russians are advancing to the shores of the Kurakhivske reservoir simultaneously from the northeast and southwest, from Vuhledar. This means that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing the threat of a cauldron in this area. And to avoid it, about 20 settlements will have to be abandoned, Bild writes.

"Komersant Ukrainian" asked military expert Dmitry Snegirev whether the situation is really that complicated.

The main task of the Russian troops is to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk region, the expert reminds, and the Russians are systematically moving towards this goal using flanking tactics.

“The situation is complicated. They are trying to create a threat of operational encirclement in the advance zone – on the flanks of Ukrainian troops. Moreover, there is a threat of withdrawal directly in the area of the location – there is a highway that forms a direct connection to Zaporizhzhia. Accordingly, these are the main threats facing Ukrainian troops,”

– explains Snegiryov.

According to him, the occupants are currently using flanking tactics, focusing on the Vuhledar direction. After the capture of Bohoyavlenka, which gave Ukrainian troops fire control over the enemy’s positions, the situation deteriorated sharply.

“Bohoyavlenka was the dominant heights that gave us the opportunity to keep under fire control not only the advancing occupation units, but also, most importantly, the locations of the occupation forces. Now the situation is exactly the opposite. Due to the dominant heights, they now have the opportunity to keep under fire control both our defensive positions and the locations of the Ukrainian defense forces,”

– the expert summarized.

At the same time, he warned against fanning panic and “betrayal”.

“At the moment there is some tactical advance on the flanks, but there are no prerequisites to say that things are that bad yet,”

– snegiryov added.
