The Ukrainian authorities will not be able to deport the head of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Metropolitan Onufriy (Berezovsky) of Kyiv and All Ukraine, until the end of the court proceedings on the revocation of his citizenship.

This was stated by lawyer Andriy Domansky, cited by Russian media, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The authorities will not be able to deport the head of the UOC until the end of the trials,” said Domansky, adding that the head of the UOC intends to defend his righteousness in court.

The lawyer also emphasized that the termination of the UOC head’s citizenship contradicts Article 25 of the Constitution of Ukraine, according to which a citizen of Ukraine cannot be deprived of citizenship. Metropolitan Onufriy is a citizen of Ukraine by birth and by place of residence.

Domansky noted that there was no evidence that the Metropolitan had any other citizenship.

on July 2, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that Metropolitan Onufriy was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
