Russian occupants shot two more Ukrainian prisoners of war. Violations of the Geneva Conventions were recorded near Selidove. This was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“According to operational data, on 18 October 2024, at 14:38, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces captured two Ukrainian servicemen during an offensive on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Pokrovsk district. The occupiers, who stormed a forest plantation near the town of Selydove, laid the unarmed prisoners of war face down. They held them in this position, pressing their feet to the ground, and after a while shot them at close range with automatic weapons,” the department said.

The prosecutor’s office recalled that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.

A pre-trial investigation into the criminal proceedings over the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder has been launched.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that “executions have become a system”. The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights also once again informed the UN and the ICRC about the war crime committed by the Russian Federation so that the organisations could record it.

“We already know about more than 100 Ukrainian servicemen who were executed by Russians when they were captured! International organisations and the democratic world must finally wake up and take action to bring war criminals to justice,” he wrote.

It should be noted that between 1 December 2023 and 29 February 2024, the Russian occupiers executed 32 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
