Christmas tree sales season has started: what prices, where to buy and how to choose

The Christmas and New Year trees sales season has officially started in Ukraine. The State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” has announced the start of sales of festive trees, and this year’s prices have remained almost at last year’s level – from 210 to 280 hryvnias, depending on the breed and region. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the Forests of Ukraine.
In the first few days, the forestry has already sold about 10,000 Christmas trees, and is ready to increase volumes if demand increases.
How much does a Christmas tree cost?
According to the company, this year’s prices remain social and affordable:
- Pine / spruce: from 210 to 250 UAH
- Spruce/fir (higher quality): 240 to 280 UAH
- Christmas trees in containers: from 500 UAH, depending on the size
The cost may be slightly higher in regions with low forest cover, such as the East and South, as well as near large cities such as Dnipro, Odesa, and Mykolaiv.
The cheapest trees are traditionally offered in the forested regions of the North and Polissya: Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, and Chernihiv regions.
Where Ukrainian Christmas trees are grown
About 7.8 million trees are currently growing on the special Christmas tree plantations of the Forests of Ukraine. 2.7 thousand hectares have been allocated for Christmas trees, where the seedlings are planted at the optimal distance so that the tree forms a beautiful, symmetrical crown.
Such plantations are created specifically for the winter holidays. This means that when buying a Christmas tree, Ukrainians do not harm the forests – the plantations are laid out for regular harvesting.
Where to buy a legal Christmas tree
You can buy a tree
- directly in forestry enterprises and branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”
- on official trading platforms
- at fairs and markets in cities and towns
All legal Christmas trees are marked with barcode tags or ribbon labels.

What happens to the proceeds from the sale of Christmas trees
The company allocates part of the proceeds to:
- restoration and care of forests
- purchase of equipment
- protection of forests
- payment of taxes to local and state budgets
“Forests of Ukraine notes that this year, almost UAH 15 billion has already been transferred to the budget, which is almost twice as much as last year.
Plans for the season
Last year, about 140 thousand trees were sold. This year, the company is also focused on this level, but is ready to quickly increase the harvesting of New Year’s conifers if necessary.
