The McDonald’s chain has officially opened its first restaurant in Zakarpattia, in the city of Uzhhorod. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers.
The area of the facility is about 400 square meters, which allows to serve up to 64 guests in the hall and 102 more on the spacious terrace.
Features of the new restaurant
This is the first McDonald’s restaurant to open since Russia’s full-scale invasion and will operate 24/7. The McDrive service will be available around the clock, which is especially important for a transit city with a large flow of drivers. The restaurant hall and delivery services will operate as usual – from 7:00 to 23:00.
The restaurant is equipped with all the usual service formats: classic ordering at the cash register, self-service terminals, two McDrives for drivers and the possibility of delivery via McDelivery. In the near future, we plan to launch a separate delivery window specifically for couriers, which will speed up the logistics of food delivery.
Technology and sustainability
McDonald’s continues to invest in sustainable technologies – the Uzhhorod outlet is equipped with automatic light sensors, heat pumps, air recuperators, and systems for maintaining an optimal microclimate, which significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon footprint.
Social contribution and new menu
In addition to the economic impact on the region, the restaurant has provided jobs for more than 80 Uzhhorod residents.
McDonald’s paid special attention to the updated breakfast menu. From now on, from 4:00 to 10:30, visitors can enjoy a wide selection of McMuffins, toast, rolls with eggs, meat and cheese, as well as new McMenu combinations.

It should be noted that since March 2022, the McDonald’s network in Ukraine has expanded significantly. According to data as of February 2025, 21 new restaurants have been opened across the country since September 2022. In 2024, the company continued its expansion by opening eight new restaurants in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Boyarka and Kovel. This brings the total number of new McDonald’s restaurants opened in Ukraine since March 2022 to at least 30.
The McDonald’s restaurant chain continues to develop actively in Ukraine despite the martial law. In 2023, the company paid over UAH 1.3 billion in taxes to the state and local budgets. This amount is about 10% of its net income, which reached about UAH 13 billion in the same period.
McDonald’s tax payments cover a wide range of mandatory payments: income tax, value added tax (VAT), payroll taxes and other taxes stipulated by Ukrainian law. Thus, the company remains a significant taxpayer and makes a significant contribution to the financing of state and local programs, as well as to maintaining the country’s economic stability.
It should be noted that McDonald’s in Ukraine does not operate a franchise system. All restaurants are directly managed by the company, which allows it to centrally control both financial flows and strategic investments.
Since 2022, McDonald’s has invested over UAH 1 billion in the Ukrainian market. The funds were used to open new restaurants, modernize existing establishments and develop infrastructure. These investments help create jobs, stimulate the development of related industries and improve the business climate in the regions.
