He embezzled UAH 840 thousand: ex-rector of Taurida University was served with a notice of suspicion

The former rector of Tauride National University is suspected of embezzling UAH 842,000 between 2017 and 2021. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Kyiv, Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
According to the report, the suspect created three educational and research institutes on the basis of the university. Their directors were paid salaries, despite the fact that no educational activities or research were carried out at the institutes.
In addition, four appointed officials – a secretary of the legal department, a literary editor, a leading specialist and a computer centre system administrator – were systematically paid salaries when they were not at work.
The official was served a notice of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property by abuse of office. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
The report does not specify the name of the ex-rector, but according to open sources, Volodymyr Kazarin was the acting rector of the university in 2017-2020, and he was re-elected in 2021.
It should be noted that Tauride National University was previously located in Simferopol. In 2014, the university, along with many teachers and students, moved to Kyiv.
