A leap forward in renewable energy: 600 MW of wind power will appear in Ukraine

In 2026, it is planned to launch 500–600 MW of wind power plants, the lion’s share of which will begin to supply electricity to the grid in the coming months. Last year, the country commissioned 512 MW of energy storage capacity.

This was announced by Andriy Konechenkov, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), according to "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

During a UNDP event in Kyiv, he noted that according to a survey of 37 companies, 324 MW of new capacity was launched in 2025, which was a real breakthrough after a modest 20 MW in 2024.

“The figure for RES is also interesting. 512 MW were commissioned last year. This indicates that wind, solar, and RES energy create a separate balanced system that can generate electricity without fear of shelling. It is a more resilient technology that allows you to survive in wartime,” said the head of the UEA.

According to him, renewable energy associations are currently working with NPC Ukrenergo on the critical issue of grid connection.

In particular, they are discussing the possibility of granting businesses the right to independently prepare network infrastructure facilities, which should significantly speed up the launch of new projects.

“The regulator, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, is already on our side. And Ukrenergo also partially supports the proposal to simplify the system of rebuilding power lines and reconstructing transformer substations in order to allow private companies to do so. This is necessary in order not to delay the tender process and to speed up the connection of new energy facilities,” Konechenkov explained.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian parliament has passed a bill that radically changes the renewable energy support system (RES). The development of alternative energy sources, in particular solar and wind, is a strategic priority for national security against the backdrop of constant attacks on the power grid, the Ministry of Energy noted.
