NATO summit in The Hague: Trump and Erdogan talk about Ukraine
25 June 2025 08:46Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump met during the NATO summit in The Hague, where they held talks on key international challenges, including Russia’s war against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon a number of important issues:
- russia’s war against Ukraine,
- the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran,
- regional security,
- global threats,
- the development of bilateral Turkish-American relations.
The Turkish president praised Donald Trump’s mediation efforts, which, according to him, contributed to the establishment of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
The parties paid special attention to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Erdogan called for a lasting peace, an end to the crisis in Gaza, and a dialogue on Ukraine, and emphasized the “importance of close dialogue” for a peaceful resolution of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
During the meeting, President Erdogan emphasized the significant potential for cooperation with the United States, particularly in energy, investment, and defense, noting that developing ties could help reach a $100 billion trade figure.
Both President Erdogan and Trump emphasized the importance of strengthening NATO’s deterrence as the Alliance’s leading allies.
