SAPO to ask for 120 million bail for Chernyshev: court to decide on June 26

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is asking the High Anti-Corruption Court to set a bail of UAH 120 million as a preventive measure for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity Oleksiy Chernyshov.
This was reported by one of the prosecutors in a commentary to Hromadske on June 25, [Komersant] reports.
Chernyshov is involved in a case of possible illegal enrichment. According to the SAPO, he returned to Ukraine from a business trip abroad and appeared for questioning voluntarily.
The prosecutor noted that even in the case of a request for detention, the court could independently determine the amount of bail.
The SAPO emphasized:
“We proceeded from the fact that he would most likely have posted it.”
Chernyshov did not appear at the hearing on June 25, citing his employment. The court postponed the consideration of the preventive measure to June 26 at the request of the suspect himself.
As a reminder, the NABU served the Deputy Prime Minister with a notice of suspicion of a corruption scheme during his tenure at the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. Chernyshov is charged with abuse of office and obtaining undue advantage: according to the investigation, he and other officials could have caused the state losses of more than UAH 1 billion through a scheme to undervalue land. Chernyshov allegedly received a discount on apartments worth over UAH 14.5 million.
The SAPO emphasizes that the amount of bail is justified by the high probability of its payment, since, according to the prosecutor, Chernyshov has already voluntarily returned to Ukraine and appeared before detectives
