Brigadier General Gennadiy Shapovalov is resigning from the post of commander of the troops of the operational command “South”. This was reported by the Operational Command “South”, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.

“It was an honor to be the commander of the troops of the South Operational Command, a powerful military team that has been courageously and selflessly defending Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty in all directions since the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war. I am proud to have been a part of this strong, well-coordinated and motivated team of professional managers, true warriors and true patriots of Ukraine,” he said in a statement.

He also thanked “each and every one of them for their dedication and strength of spirit, for their conscientious service and fruitful cooperation in protecting the Ukrainian state.”

It should be noted that Shapovalov became the head of the South Operational Command in April 2024.

On January 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Brigadier General Hennadiy Shapovalov to a new position. He will coordinate military assistance to Ukraine in Wiesbaden.

“Hennadiy Shapovalov will work with our partners in Wiesbaden, his task is to coordinate security assistance to Ukraine,” Zelensky said in a video message.

The NSATU (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine) mission, which coordinates the fulfillment of countries’ promises to supply weapons and has a specific list of Ukraine’s needs, has started working in Wiesbaden, Germany.

It should be added that Wiesbaden is the location of the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) command. The opening of this center was one of the key commitments made by NATO members at the Alliance Summit in July 2024.
