“Shchedryk” became the soundtrack for Chanel’s promotional video

The melody of the Ukrainian “Shchedryk” was featured in Chanel’s Christmas video. The fashion house has presented a Christmas video dedicated to its new cosmetics collection, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The video is dedicated to the new Chanel makeup collection. In the story, the heroine dreams of a winter fairy tale and her wish comes true – everything around her is covered with snow.

The video’s directors used the melody “Shchedryk” written by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych as a soundtrack. The whole world knows it as Carol of the Bells – the song has become an attribute of Christmas for hundreds of millions of people not only in America but all over the world. in 2022, the song celebrated its 100th anniversary.

It is worth noting that “Shchedryk” is one of those songs that Mykola Leontovych worked on almost all his life. The first version was written in 1901-1902, the second version in 1906-1908, the third in 1914, the fourth in 1916, and finally the fifth in 1919.

Shchedryk was first performed by the Kyiv University Choir in 1916, when the composer was working in Kyiv, where he directed choirs, taught at the Mykola Lysenko Music and Drama School (later the Lysenko Institute), worked in the music department of the Kyiv Regional Committee and the All-Ukrainian Committee of Arts, and led the newly created state orchestra.
