US President Donald Trump is planning to offer Russia access to natural resources in the Bering Strait and the occupied territories of Ukraine during a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15.
This was reported byThe Telegraph, citing its own sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the publication, the initiative is part of a package of proposals aimed at achieving a ceasefire. Among them is Russia’s permission to develop Ukrainian deposits, including the country’s two largest lithium deposits located on temporarily occupied land.
The possibility of lifting restrictions on the export of parts and equipment for the maintenance of Russian aircraft, much of which is out of service due to sanctions, is also being considered.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is evaluating potential economic concessions for Russia to speed up the deal.
On August 13, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump, and EU leaders held an online meeting. The parties agreed that Ukraine is ready to discuss territorial issues, but without legal recognition of the Russian occupation.
