UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk has condemned Russia for its continued attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and expressed concern for Ukrainian civilians before the onset of winter. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the the text of the politician’s speech on the UN website.
In his speech at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Turk noted that Russia has been striking civilian targets such as hospitals, schools and supermarkets, as well as attacking energy infrastructure, which has led to power outages across Ukraine.
“In Ukraine, the civilian population is trapped in cycles of terror due to constant attacks by the Russian Federation, which strikes civilian targets such as hospitals, schools and supermarkets, and constant waves of attacks on energy infrastructure, which lead to power outages across the country,” the politician said.
He also noted that his office had tried to gain access to all war-affected regions, including Russia’s Kursk region, to monitor the human rights situation, but that the Russian authorities had refused to grant such access. Turk expressed regret over this.
