Schools, businesses, banks: A wave of “bomb threats” is sweeping across Ukraine
30 March 16:21
A massive wave of anonymous bomb threats has swept across Ukraine. Since 11:00 a.m., threatening letters have been arriving at government agencies, schools, banks, and other institutions across the country.
This was reported by Yulia Girdvilis, spokesperson for the Kyiv National Police, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
As of 2:50 p.m., the police had already received 1,216 such reports.
Anonymous letters containing bomb threats are being received by:
- state and local government agencies
- educational institutions
- businesses and organizations
- banks and other institutions.
What law enforcement is doing
Bomb disposal experts, K-9 units, and investigative teams are already on the scene. All buildings are being inspected according to standard safety protocols.
So far, about 20% of the reports have been processed. None of them have been confirmed.
Law enforcement is investigating who is behind the messages. The police have not ruled out that this is yet another information and psychological operation by the enemy.
According to sources at RBC-Ukraine, Serhiy Leonidovych Ponomarenko, head of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc in the Kharkiv region, may be involved in the distribution of the messages.
“Since 11:00 a.m. on March 30, anonymous messages about bomb threats in buildings have continued to flood the email addresses of state authorities, local governments, educational institutions, businesses, organizations, banks, and other institutions,” said National Police spokesperson Yulia Girdvilis.
The police remind the public that sending knowingly false reports of threats to public safety is a criminal offense.
Citizens are asked to remain calm and follow only official sources of information.
