Shmyhal announced complex power cut schedules: what Ukrainians can expect on February 10–11
9 February 23:22
Complex power outage schedules are expected in Ukraine’s power grid on February 10 and 11. The reason is low temperatures and increased load on the system. This was announced by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, despite partial support for the system from solar generation during the daytime, the situation remains tense, and repair work on generation and distribution facilities continues around the clock.
Why complex schedules are being introduced
As the minister explained, Tuesday and Wednesday will be subject to restrictions similar to the current situation. Due to the cold weather, electricity consumption is increasing, while the power system has not yet recovered from previous attacks and accidents.
“Repair work on generation and distribution facilities continues around the clock. Due to low temperatures, Tuesday and Wednesday will be subject to complex schedules, as is the case today, despite the fact that the system is partially supported by solar generation during the day,” said Denys Shmyhal.
Priority — hospitals and social facilities
The government is also reviewing the list of critical infrastructure facilities. The following will continue to have unconditional priority:
- hospitals,
- water utilities,
- social facilities.
These institutions will be supplied with electricity first. Other state and municipal institutions will gradually switch to autonomous operation using generators.
According to the minister, this will free up more electricity for domestic consumers.
Control over fair distribution
Separately, Shmyhal emphasized that the state will strengthen control over the fair distribution of electricity in order to ensure equal conditions for all consumers and avoid abuse during the application of power cut schedules.
Energy companies are calling on citizens to use electrical appliances sparingly, especially during peak hours, and to follow official announcements from distribution system operators in their regions.
