Shmyhal warned Ukrainians: electricity saving regime will drag on for years

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government meeting that the consequences of Russian attacks on the country’s energy sector are long-term, and therefore energy saving will be part of everyday life in the coming years, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Shmyhal said that today’s key priority is to strengthen the energy sector after Russian terrorist attacks. The situation is very difficult. More than 9 GW of generation capacity has been lost.
“The enemy continues to attack energy facilities. At present, Ukrenergo is once again forced to resort to scheduled power outages. This will give us time to restore and strengthen the power system,” he said,
– he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the key priority is to strengthen the energy sector after the Russian terrorist attacks.
“Our goal is to save energy at all levels: from large enterprises to individual houses and apartments. The consequences of Russian attacks on the energy sector are long-term. Therefore, saving will be part of our everyday life in the coming years,”

Current situation in the power system
Following the attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on 4 June, Ukraine introduced power supply restrictions. In Donetsk Oblast, 5.1 thousand customers were cut off from electricity supply due to enemy shelling. In the Kyiv region, 578 customers in one of the settlements remain without power due to an emergency outage.
In Lviv Oblast, 48 settlements remain without power due to a thunderstorm. 37,300 customers in Kharkiv Oblast remain without power due to hostilities.
A difficult situation with electricity occurred in Kyiv on Tuesday, 4 June. Ukrenergo announced emergency blackouts for the capital. According to YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko, the reason for these blackouts was that the capital exceeded the electricity consumption limits. That is why the city’s blackout schedules are currently not working.
