Swedish journalist Elaf Ali called Ukrainian women prostitutes during an episode of the entertainment programme IFS – Invandrare för svenskar on the national TV channel SVT. She said that most of them can be seen only in brothels, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports

“They are blond and blue-eyed, so you don’t notice their presence except in brothels,”

– Elaf Ali said on the show.

Such statements by the Swedish journalist caused a flurry of outrage among Ukrainians, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden reacted, calling on the journalist to publicly apologise to Ukrainian women.

“We consider such statements to be deeply offensive and absolutely unacceptable, given the circumstances of Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, which forced Ukrainian women to save their lives and the lives of their children abroad. We call on journalist Elaf Ali to publicly apologise and on the management of SVT to take the necessary measures to prevent similar situations in the future,”

– the agency said.

However, Elaf Ali has no plans to apologise. On her Twitter page, she called her critics evil and hypocritical.

“Hello, you dishonest and hypocritical people who pretend to care about women. Are you ‘angry’ at the description of reality, in a comedy show, but not at the fact that it happens – or at men who buy sex? Absolutely. I hope you feel better after getting your vile racism out,”

– she wrote.

Presumably, between the two statements, commentators pointed out that she does not blend in in Sweden, as she was born in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and moved to the country at the age of 4.
