Cancellation of the Rada meetings: Arakhamia says MPs have ‘urgent task’

5 March 2024 17:39

The head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, David Arakhamia, explained the cancellation of this week’s Verkhovna Rada sessions by saying that MPs had to fulfil an “urgent task” that affects partner assistance. He wrote about this in Telegram, Kommersant Ukrainian reports

Arakhamia reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Rada has been working in a continuous plenary session.

“This allows us, firstly, to meet at any time and make decisions, and secondly, to respond promptly to changes in the security situation, important deadlines or peculiarities of decision-making by our partners. Therefore, it is impossible to cancel something that is ongoing both in fact and in accordance with the regulations,”

– explained the MP.

According to Arakhamia, in the near future, MPs will work with the military similarly to their work in constituencies. Both at the front line and in training centres and permanent deployment points.

“Now our MPs have an urgent and important task in this area, which directly affects the assistance of our partners. When it is completed, they will return to work in the session hall. Such things cannot and should not be announced for security reasons,”

– he said.

At the same time, he added that the opposition also has plans for the near future. According to him, some are going to attend a party congress in Romania, while others will go on business trips that they managed to get out of the European Parliament.

“Rebellion” in the Rada

A scandal has erupted in the Verkhovna Rada over the obstruction of MPs’ business trips. In this regard, the European Solidarity and Voice factions announced that they would put to a vote every amendment to the draft law on mobilisation. As a result, the session of the Verkhovna Rada that was supposed to take place this week was cancelled altogether.

Parliament had many important laws on its agenda: social, educational, military and at least 10 ratifications.
