How many Ukrainians agree to a peace plan with concessions to Russia: kIIS new poll

15 December 11:18

Almost three-quarters of Ukrainians, 72% to be exact, are ready to approve a peace plan that would, among other things, include a freeze on the situation along the current front line along with security guarantees for Ukraine without officially recognizing the occupied territories as part of Russia. At the same time, 75% reject a plan that would, among other things, include the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas, restrictions on the Ukrainian army, and no specific security guarantees. These data were published by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The KIIS noted that during the study, respondents were offered two shortened versions of a possible peace plan and asked to answer how acceptable it was in general. They did not specify whether it belonged to Europe with Ukraine or Russia.

Sociologists indicate that only 17% of Ukrainians are more or less ready for the Russian version of peace; this position has not changed since September.

At the same time, 72% of Ukrainians are ready to approve the plan of Europe and Ukraine, albeit without enthusiasm, and only 14% categorically reject it. However, the number of those who would “easily agree to this plan” has increased from 18% to 31%.

At the same time, the majority of Ukrainians – 63% – said they were ready to endure the war as long as necessary, and another 1% said they were ready to endure it for about a year.

At the same time, only 9% of Ukrainians expect the war to end by early 2026, and only 14% think it may end at least in the first half of 2026. Another 11% say that the war may end in the second half of 2026, and 32% say 2027 and later. At the same time, every third respondent answered “I don’t know.”

The US peace plan for Ukraine

As a reminder, the United States, Ukraine, and Europe continue to work on the American peace plan.

So far, the peace plan has been slightly amended and reduced from 28 points to 20.

The most difficult issue now is the issue of territories, namely Donbas. Washington demands that it be given to Russia, while Ukraine rejects such proposals.

The other day, it was reported that the parties are discussing three key initiatives: a framework document, a security guarantee agreement, and a document defining the principles of post-war reconstruction.

According to WSJ sources, the White House intends to reach a peace agreement by the end of 2025.
