Slovakia wants to reach an agreement with other EU countries by July 15 on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, which Bratislava had previously blocked.

This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, "Komersant Ukrainian" writes with reference to Reuters.

According to Fico, it is about Bratislava receiving guarantees that it will not suffer in the event of a complete cessation of Russian gas supplies planned by the European Union from 2028.

EU Council at the level of foreign ministers

On July 15, a meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers will be held in Brussels. The government in Bratislava fears that the approval of the package will lead to difficulties with raw materials, rising prices, and demands from Gazprom to compensate for losses.

According to diplomats and EU officials, intensive negotiations with Bratislava are taking place both at the level of the European Commission and the EU Council, as well as bilaterally with other EU countries.
