“Servant of the People” member Volodina resigns: what we know

23 March 12:47

Daria Volodina, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the “Servant of the People” faction, has submitted a request for early termination of her parliamentary mandate. Her request has already been endorsed by the Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Deputy Ethics, and the Organization of the Verkhovna Rada’s Work. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

What decision must the Verkhovna Rada make

According to the parliamentarian, the final decision on the termination of Volodina’s parliamentary powers must be adopted by the Verkhovna Rada during a vote in the session hall.

For the resolution to take effect, at least 226 votes from members of parliament are required.

As Zheleznyak explained, since Volodina was elected on the “Servant of the People” party list, this will not affect the faction’s numbers—her seat will be taken by the next candidate on the list.

“In this case, a vote in the chamber (226) will be required for the resolution to take effect. Daria Volodina is my colleague on the Committee. She was elected from the general SN list, so this will not affect the total number of faction members,” the parliamentarian noted.

Who is Daria Volodina

Daria Volodina was born on April 16, 1991. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and also studied at the Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Before being elected to parliament, she worked in advertising and reputation risk management, notably founding her own advertising agency.

In 2019, Volodina became a member of the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation representing the Servant of the People party (No. 65 on the list). In parliament, she served on the Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy.

Political Activities in Parliament

In 2021, the MP joined the inter-factional group “Smart Politics,” led by Dmytro Razumkov.

After she resigns her seat, her place in the Verkhovna Rada will be taken by the next candidate on the party’s electoral list.

Scandals

According to media reports, in October 2019, she was suspected of receiving a bribe of $30,000 for not supporting a bill in the committee aimed at eliminating corruption schemes during real estate appraisals.

She underwent a polygraph test in connection with the scandal surrounding a group of “Servant of the People” deputies’ refusal to vote for draft law No. 2047-d on eliminating corruption schemes during real estate appraisals in the Verkhovna Rada’s Finance Committee. She stated that, according to the results, she did not conspire regarding the vote and did not receive any improper benefits in exchange for her vote

Decline in the number of deputies in the Rada

It was previously reported that the number of MPs in the Verkhovna Rada is gradually decreasing. By the end of 2025, there were approximately 395 MPs remaining in parliament.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously stated that deputies who wish to resign during martial law must either continue their parliamentary work or join the military.

However, the head of the Servant of the People faction, Davyd Arakhamia, clarified that this does not involve the forced mobilization of MPs, but only potential legislative changes that would allow parliamentarians to voluntarily join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What happens next

Following the vote in the Verkhovna Rada, Daria Volodina’s powers may be officially terminated. In that case, the Central Election Commission must recognize the next candidate on the party’s list as a member of parliament.
