From March 25 to 30, Ukrainian biathletes will determine the strongest at the national championship. This was reported by Champion, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Usually, the Ukrainian championship is held in two stages – in December and March. This system is adjusted to the international biathlon season, which lasts from the end of November to the end of the first spring month.

While the December championships traditionally take place in Lviv region, the spring part is hosted by Ivano-Frankivsk region. The competitions take place in Bukovel.

What about the snow in March

As Serhiy Sednev, head of the winter sports department at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, told Champion in an exclusive commentary, the stadium should have normal conditions for the competition: artificial snow is the norm at any competition.

“Recently, part of the Nordic combined event has finished there. Earlier, they made enough snow to hold the biathlon championships. Usually, the snow is piled up near the track, and then, before the competition, it is spread on the track with special equipment and tamped according to the technology. If there is natural snow, it’s great, but if not, we have long since learned to do without it. The main thing is to make the snow on time, as long as the temperature conditions allow,” the expert said.

The Ukrainian Championship is traditionally divided into two parts – December and March. This allows for a full competition program.

According to Sergey Sednev, the March championship is like a second round, a continuation of the first part.

“It is impossible to fit all the races into the program of the December championship. Because then it would have to be stretched for at least 10 days, and the biathletes’ schedule is so tight that it will not be possible to do so. And at the end of the season, in March, there is such an opportunity, because everyone has almost completed the competition cycle,” explains Sednev.

The composition of the championship is almost unchanged. All biathlon regions take part: Chernihiv, Sumy, Ternopil, Volyn, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zakarpattia, Lviv regions, as well as the city of Kyiv.

Among those biathletes who competed at the World Cup, the leader of the women’s national team, Yulia Dzhyma, will not be able to take part in the championship. She is traveling with the Ukrainian team to the World Military Games, which will start in Switzerland.

The first competitive discipline of the 2025 Biathlon Championships in Ukraine, the single mixed relay, will take place on March 26.

Who will represent Ukraine at the World Military Games

Ukrainian biathletes will start competing at the Games in Lucerne, Switzerland, today. They are scheduled to participate in two disciplines.

Women will be the first to take to the course, competing in the sprint. The men’s sprint will follow. on March 27, a mixed relay will take place.

The Ukrainian biathlon team includes: Yulia Dzhima, Anna Krivonos, Nadiia Belkina, Valeria Dmytrenko, Iryna Petrenko, Denys Nasyko, Artem Tyshchenko, Ruslan Tkalenko, and Bohdan Tsymbal, all of whom represent their respective military structures.

There are many well-known biathletes among the competitors. For example, the French and German teams are represented by almost combat teams.

How Ukrainians finished the biathlon cup season

on March 23, the final races of the 2024/25 season took place. The final stage of the Biathlon World Cup took place in Holmenkollen. These were men’s and women’s mass starts.

The winners of the World Cup races were Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson and Germany’s Franziska Proes, who won the Big Crystal Globe after winning the mass start.

In total, 58 sets of awards were played during the Biathlon World Cup season. Representatives of 13 countries, including Ukraine, managed to win medals.
