The Sotheby’s auction house will put up for auction on November 18 a golden toilet for $10 million, The New York Times reports, "Komersant Ukrainian".

The article notes that in 2016, an object made of 18-carat gold weighing about 100 kg called “America” was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. There are only two such toilets in the world. in 2017, this object entered a private collection, and in 2019 its “brother” was stolen from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England.

“For me, Cattelan is one of the greatest artists of our generation, and this is one of his most iconic works,” said David Halperin, Vice President and Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s, about the upcoming lot.

During Donald Trump’s first presidential term, the Guggenheim Museum in New York refused to lend the White House Vincent van Gogh’s painting Landscape with Snow. It was supposed to be installed in one of the head of state’s private rooms. However, the museum did not want to fulfill the request of the US administration and offered instead another work of art – a golden toilet bowl “America”.
