Sociologists tried to find out the level of trust in Svyrydenko, but people do not even know her

Less than a month after Yulia Svyrydenko was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, sociologists have found out how well Ukrainians know and trust the new head of government. The results of a study by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) show a significant dependence of the level of trust on whether respondents know about her new position, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The experiment revealed a problem with recognition

Sociologists conducted an experiment, dividing respondents into two groups. The first half of the respondents were simply asked about their trust in Yulia Svyrydenko, without mentioning her position. The second half was first told that she had become the new Prime Minister and then asked about their trust.

The results were dramatically different. Without mentioning her position, only 42% of respondents said they knew Svyrydenko and were ready to give their opinion about her. At the same time, among those who know her, the number of those who do not trust her is higher (19% vs. 11% of those who do).

A completely different picture emerges when respondents are told who Yulia Svyrydenko is. In this case, 76% of respondents say they know her, and the ratio changes in favor of trust: 31% of those who trust her versus 26% of those who do not.

Regional differences in attitudes

The analysis by region shows that the highest level of trust in the new Prime Minister is observed in the West and East of Ukraine, where the number of those who trust her exceeds the number of those who do not. In the Central and Southern regions, the situation is more balanced – approximately the same number of citizens trust and distrust Svyrydenko.

Interestingly, in all regions, without exception, there is a tendency of low recognition of the politician, if her new position is not mentioned. This indicates that Yulia Svyrydenko is not yet a widely known public figure among the population of Ukraine.

Restrained expectations from the new government

As for expectations of the government under Svyrydenko’s leadership, neutral sentiments prevail. Almost half of respondents (45%) believe that the government’s activities will not change after her appointment. Another 33% could not formulate their expectations at all.

Thus, 78% of Ukrainians currently have neither positive nor negative expectations of the new Cabinet of Ministers. Positive expectations were expressed by only 18% of respondents who believe that the government’s performance will improve. A minimal 4% of respondents have negative expectations.

Challenges and opportunities for the new Prime Minister

KIIS Executive Director Anton Hrushetsky noted in his comments to the survey results that low awareness of the new Prime Minister could become a serious barrier to the implementation of important reforms. After all, it is much easier for a well-known authoritative official who enjoys the trust of the general public to convince citizens of the need for complex decisions.

At the same time, the expert noted that the current situation also creates certain opportunities. Unlike many well-known politicians of the “old cohort” who are distrusted by 70-80% of the population, Svyrydenko does not yet have an a priori negative attitude from the public.

Research methodology

The survey was conducted from July 23 to August 4, 2025, by telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile numbers. A total of 1,022 respondents were interviewed in all regions of the government-controlled territory. The sample did not include residents of the temporarily occupied territories and citizens who moved abroad after the outbreak of full-scale war.

The statistical error of the study does not exceed 4.1% for the total sample and 5.8% for the subsamples of the experiment. Sociologists note that in times of war, a certain systematic deviation is added to the formal error, but the results remain highly representative.

Yulia Svyrydenko was appointed to the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine on July 17, 2025, by the Verkhovna Rada. This study was the first large-scale survey of public opinion on the new head of the Ukrainian government.
