At a meeting with a Ukrainian delegation on Friday, October 17, US Special Representative Steven Witkoff pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to make concessions to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding the territory of the Donetsk region.

This was reported by The Washington Post, citing sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the newspaper, during the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump, Vitkoff “pressured the Ukrainian delegation” on the issue of transferring part of the Donetsk region to the Armed Forces. Trump’s special representative pointed out that the region is “predominantly Russian-speaking.”

The newspaper also noted that in a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin demanded that the entire Donetsk region be transferred to the control of the Russian army.

The newspaper calls this a “somewhat less ambitious territorial demand” than the one the Russian dictator made at the August summit with Trump in Alaska.
