Singer and songwriter Jill Sobel died in a fire in a house in the suburbs of Minneapolis.
This was reported by The Guardian, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Sobul’s body was found in a house in Woodbury, Minnesota, on Thursday. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
The singer and author of the singles Supermodel and I Kissed a Girl was 66 years old.
Her manager John Porter confirmed her death in a statement to the Minnesota Star Tribute.
“Jill Soble was a force of nature and a human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture. I had so much fun working with her,” Porter said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.
According to her website, Sobel was scheduled to perform on Friday in her native Denver to present songs from her autobiographical stage musical F*ck 7th Grade, which was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in 2023.
Sobel is best remembered for her 1995 album, which included two of her biggest hits: Supermodel from the Hollywood coming-of-age comedy Headless and I Kissed a Girl, which is considered the first openly LGBT-themed song to reach the top 20 on the Billboard singles chart.
The song gained attention again in 2008 when Katy Perry released her own single with the same title.
