US President Donald Trump announced a new agreement with the Venezuelan government on the extraction of gold and other minerals in the country. In January 2026, the US military took Nicolas Maduro out of Venezuela to stand trial.
The US president made this announcement at the Shield of America summit, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“This week, we officially recognized the Venezuelan government. We have actually recognized it legally. And we have also just signed a historic gold agreement. It is called the Gold Agreement with Venezuela, which will allow our two countries to cooperate to promote the sale of Venezuelan gold and other minerals. They have large reserves of gold. They have good land,” Trump said, providing details.
Trump also reiterated his threats against Cuba. He said he was “waiting for change” in the country. But right now, Cuba is “at the end of the line” in terms of his administration’s priorities.
“They have a bad regime, which has been bad for a long time. And before, they used to get money from Venezuela. They used to get oil from Venezuela. But they don’t have any money from Venezuela, they don’t have oil, they don’t have anything,” Trump said.
He also said that the Cuban government is negotiating with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on an agreement with the US. Trump is demanding a change of regime in Cuba from communist to pro-American.
