Electricity consumption increased by 16% amid cold snaps. What the energy sector says
7 April 2025 15:58
As of the morning of April 7, the level of electricity consumption in Ukraine was 16% higher than on the previous business day.
This was reported by Ukrenergo, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The power company explains this sharp jump by a drop in air temperature. In addition, due to cloudy weather throughout Ukraine, the efficiency of domestic solar power plants has decreased.
Ukrenergo reminds that the Ukrainian power system is still recovering from Russian massive missile and drone attacks. Therefore, between 8:00 and 21:00, Ukrainians are asked to conserve electricity.
“Please, if possible, limit the use of powerful electrical appliances during this time and do not turn on two powerful devices at the same time,” the statement said.
Cold snap in April
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on April 5-7, cold air of Arctic origin will come to Ukraine from the north. This will lead to the formation of an active cyclone, which will cause weather conditions to deteriorate and colder. Rains are forecast in most regions, sometimes with a transition to sleet.
Such weather conditions will complicate the work of energy, construction and utility companies, and lead to traffic disruptions on the roads. Frost will damage early flowering fruit trees.
Forecasters have also warned of natural and dangerous meteorological events across Ukraine. In the western, northern, and Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions, frosts of 0°C to -5°C are expected on April 8-11. Hazard level II (orange) has been declared there.
On the night of April 7 in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovs’k regions and on April 8 in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, frosts from 0°C to -3°C are expected on the soil surface.
