Kurchenko case: businessman Tyshchenko escapes 8 years in prison

The High Anti-Corruption Court has approved a plea agreement concluded between the SAPO prosecutor and businessman Serhiy Tyshchenko, who was involved in the case of embezzlement of seized oil products of fugitive pro-Russian businessman Serhiy Kurchenko. This was reported by the press service of the HACC, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The court did not name the businessman, but the circumstances of the case indicate that it is businessman Serhiy Tyshchenko.
What did the court decide?
The court sentenced Tyshchenko to eight years in prison with a three-year ban on holding positions in state and local government, as well as state and municipal enterprises.
No property was confiscated.
However, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the businessman was released from serving the main sentence. He was placed on probation for three years, which is when the verdict is considered effective.
What was he accused of?
According to the investigation, in 2014-2015, Sergiy Tishchenko, together with former MP Serhiy Pashynsky, seized almost 100 thousand tons of oil products belonging to Serhiy Kurchenko. Their value exceeds UAH 817 million.
In February 2024, the SBU notified the defendants of suspicion. Tyshchenko was initially arrested with the possibility of bail of UAH 363 million, which was later reduced to UAH 181 million. In August 2025, the measure of restraint was changed to a personal commitment.
What are the businessman’s obligations?
Tyshchenko is obliged to:
- periodically report to the probation authority for registration;
- report any change of place of residence, work or study;
- not to leave the territory of Ukraine without the permission of the probation authority.
The verdict will come into force if no appeal is filed within the statutory period.
