The Security Service of Ukraine has completed its pre-trial investigation into the murder of People’s Deputy and former Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy and has sent the indictment to court. This was reported by the SBU, according to [komersant].
“The Security Service has completed its pre-trial investigation and sent an indictment to court against the hitman suspected of murdering Ukrainian MP Andriy Parubiy. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The investigation has documented new crimes committed by the suspect, including his calls for the overthrow of the constitutional order and the elimination of representatives of the Ukrainian government.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a 53-year-old resident of Lviv. Law enforcement officers detained him in September 2025 in the Khmelnytskyi region when he was attempting to leave the country illegally.
The investigation established that in 2024, the man was recruited by the Russian special services. This happened after he searched Telegram for information about his son, who had gone missing in the Donetsk region.
After being recruited, according to the SBU, he passed on information about the locations of the Defense Forces to the Russian side and also tried to gather information about the routes of railway trains carrying fuel.
“After being recruited, the suspect carried out hostile tasks: he tracked and “leaked” the locations of the Defense Forces to the Russians, and also tried to track the routes of railway trains carrying fuel. Subsequently, the Russians offered him a “more difficult” task — to kill one of the state officials.”
According to the investigation, the man chose People’s Deputy and former Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy as his victim.
It is noted that after the murder, the suspect tried to destroy the evidence and flee abroad. During searches, law enforcement officers also found a sawn-off hunting rifle, which the man had left in a hiding place at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
In addition, the investigation established that he publicly justified the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine and glorified the Russian military.
He is charged with high treason, attempted murder of a public figure, illegal handling of weapons, public calls for the overthrow of the constitutional order, and justification of Russia’s armed aggression.
The defendant faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
On August 30, 2025, in Lviv, the current MP and former head of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, was killed. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, an unknown man fired several shots at the politician, killing Parubiy on the spot. The attacker fled, and a special operation called “Siren” was launched in the city.
On September 1, it was reported that a suspect in the murder of the former head of the Verkhovna Rada had been detained in the Khmelnytsky region.
At a briefing on September 1, law enforcement officials said that the investigation was not ruling out any of the versions in the case of the murder of People’s Deputy Andriy Parubiy, but considered the Russian trail to be a priority.
In December, the Security Service of Ukraine showed the Makarov pistol with which, according to the investigation, Parubiy was killed.
