The case of a Lviv businessman, his son and company directors over the supply of low-quality clothing to the Armed Forces worth more than a billion hryvnias has been brought to court. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The office does not name the defendants, but it is clear from the circumstances of the case that it is Igor Hrynkevych and his son Roman.

They are accused of creating and participating in a criminal organisation, as well as fraud committed under martial law on a particularly large scale (Article 255, paragraphs 1 and 2, and Article 190, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In addition, the four suspects are charged with money laundering (Article 209(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the businessman created a criminal organisation with the aim of embezzling budget funds. Its members entered into contracts with the Ministry of Defence for the supply of military clothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“According to the examinations, as a result of the supply of low-quality clothing, the state, represented by the Ministry of Defence, suffered damage in the amount of over UAH 1 billion. Pre-trial restraint in the form of detention was imposed on the members of the criminal organisation,” the statement said.

The Hrynkevych case

Businessman Ihor Hrynkevych is accused of attempting to bribe one of the heads of the SBI’s Main Investigation Department. He allegedly offered USD 500,000 for assistance in returning seized property (uniforms for the Armed Forces of Ukraine), which the SBI had been holding at customs for several months.

Ihor’s son, Roman Hrynkevych , was suspected in the case of contracts with the Ministry of Defence to provide the Armed Forces with uniforms. At first, he was accused of embezzling state funds, and then the qualification was changed to complaints about the quality of the uniforms supplied.

The Ministry of Defence cancelled contracts with Hrynkevych’s company amid the scandal. It is also known that the Ministry of Defence had no complaints about the delivered goods and had not drawn up any complaint reports at the time of the contract execution.
