The United States is deploying its military forces closer to the Middle East amid tensions caused by Israel’s recent attack on Iranian territory. According to the Associated Press, citing senior Pentagon sources, this decision is due to fears of a possible escalation on the part of Tehran, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports .

According to the sources, two American destroyers have been ordered to approach the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. In particular, the USS Thomas Hudner is already on its way to the area, and another destroyer has been put on high alert for possible response at the request of the White House.

A US Department of Defense official said that President Donald Trump held an emergency meeting with the National Security Council to assess the situation and develop further steps in the region.

On the night of June 13, 2025, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, striking nuclear and military facilities in various regions of Iran – among the targets were enrichment plants in Natanz, military bases, and private residences of high-ranking officials from the power elite. According to Iranian media, senior commanders were killed, including Corps Commander Salami, Chief Ahmadi, and several nuclear scientists.

Iran responded with drones and fire
Iran reported that it had launched more than 100 unmanned aerial vehicles into Israel – most of them were shot down by Israeli air defense. The Iranian Foreign Ministry called the Israeli strikes a “declaration of war” and promised a “severe response”.

Consequences for Nuclear Infrastructure and Localization of Radiation Risk
Although Iranian authorities detected a radiation incident at the Natanz nuclear facility, no contamination was found outside the facility and the risk is low. At the same time, the Israeli side assesses the strikes as significant for Iran’s nuclear program.

International Reaction and Economic Consequences
The UN urgently convenes a meeting of the Security Council at Iran’s initiative.

The US denies direct involvement in the military operation, but welcomes Israel’s actions and calls on Iran to negotiate.

On world markets, oil prices rose by 6-14%, while US and European stock indices fell.

Prospects for the conflict
Israel announces preparations for prolonged military actions against Iran’s nuclear potential. Iran warns of further strikes, including retaliation through its proxies (such as Hezbollah).

The international community is calling on the parties to exercise restraint, but there is a real risk of escalation into a broader regional conflict.
