Jarrod Eigen, director of the US National Energy Security Council, said that Washington intends to take control of Iran’s oil reserves.

“Our goal is to take Iran’s huge oil reserves out of the hands of terrorists,” he said in an interview with Fox Business, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Eigen, who is the deputy assistant to the US president, added that this would be a long-term benefit, as it would eliminate the risks associated with oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House representative also cited the example of Venezuela, where US actions at the beginning of the year led to a rapid increase in oil production. According to Eigen, the American oil company Chevron achieved record production levels there in just two months. These statements were made against the backdrop of preparations for the third American aircraft carrier group to be sent to the Middle East, the completion of which was announced the day before by the US Navy command.

On March 5, the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, as well as a group of ships and combat aircraft accompanying it, completed the training necessary to participate in “national missions” and are now awaiting transfer to the Middle East, the report said.

There are currently two US strike groups operating in the region, led by the aircraft carriers Abraham Lincoln and Gerald R. Ford. According to USNI News and Marine Tracker, the former is operating in the Arabian Sea and the latter in the Red Sea.

As The Wall Street Journal reported, the George HW Bush received orders to prepare for deployment to the Middle East in early February. At that time, it was off the coast of Virginia.
