U.S. demands Zelensky plan for strikes on Russia before lifting restrictions – Bloomberg

According to the newspaper’s sources, Ukraine’s partners want to better understand what Kyiv plans to achieve before making a decision.
According to the agency, Blinken and Lammey wanted Zelenskyy to present them with a detailed plan of what targets the Ukrainian Armed Forces intend to hit if restrictions on strikes against Russia are lifted.
It is noted that the meeting between Blinken, Lammy and Zelensky lasted longer than planned, and the Ukrainian president explained in detail why Ukraine needs to strike inside Russia. The agency’s source said that Zelensky told them that Ukraine was only interested in military targets and discussed his country’s plans for the coming months.
According to Bloomberg, no significant changes in restrictions are expected this week. However, President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet in Washington to discuss the issue.
Ahead of the meeting with Blinken and Lammey, the Ukrainian president said that he would strengthen his call for an easing of arms restrictions when he meets with Biden at the UN General Assembly this month.
Earlier , President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the decision to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons depends on four specific countries: The United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
Western weapons and permits for their use
As you know, the United States(and Germany after them) allow the use of weapons provided by them only for strikes on the border territories of Russia. This permission was granted by US President Joe Biden only at the end of May, and before that, strikes on Russian territory with US weapons were generally prohibited.
However, towards the end of June, unofficial statements were heard from the US side that the restrictions “do not apply to geography or a certain radius”. This means that Ukraine is allegedly able to strike at those facilities and territories from which attacks on Ukraine are directly directed, even if they are deeper than the border areas.
Experts say that border strikes will not change the situation at the front, so Zelenskyy is asking his partners for permission to use their weapons on Russian territory. Some Western countries have already given such permission.
