The United States of America has imposed duties of up to 3521% on imports of solar panels from Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Bloomberg writes about it, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

For which countries the duties were introduced:

  • For Cambodia, the tariff will be 3521%;
  • Malaysia – 34.4%;
  • Vietnam – 395.9%;
  • Thailand – 375.2%.

According to the publication, in 2024, $12.9 billion worth of solar panel equipment was supplied to the United States from these four countries, which is 77% of total imports of such goods.

The duties announced on Monday are the culmination of a year-long trade investigation that found that producers in Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand unfairly benefit from government subsidies and sell exports to the United States at rates below the cost of production.

The investigation was launched by domestic solar panel manufacturers under former President Joe Biden.

According to the journalists, while the duties are intended to benefit domestic producers, they will also harm renewable energy developers in the United States who have long relied on low-cost foreign supplies, increasing uncertainty in a sector that has been affected by political changes in Washington.
