The damage caused by Ukrainian strikes on the Russian energy sector in the six months from September 1, 2024, to February 12, 2025, amounted to at least 60 billion rubles, or $658 million. In addition, during the same period, dozens of Russian military facilities were damaged or completely destroyed.
This was calculated by Radio Liberty together with the Ukrainian project Frontelligence Insight and a group of volunteers based on more than 100 satellite images, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
At least 67% of Ukrainian strikes were successful. In the remaining cases, the outcome of the attacks remains unknown or it is impossible to prove Ukraine’s involvement.
Most often, Ukrainian drones or missiles hit targets at distances in the range of 100-150 kilometers. The average distance to the target does not exceed 650 kilometers.
There were only four strikes within the range of 850-900 kilometers, three of which occurred in Chechnya and one in the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. Several drones successfully covered a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers.
The most successful month of strikes on Russian military infrastructure
September 2024 is called the month of the most successful strikes on Russian military infrastructure. Two strategic ammunition depots in Toropets and Tikhoretsk, which played a key role in supplying 120-mm and 82-mm mortar shells and other weapons to the occupiers, were destroyed.
Initially, Ukrainian strikes were more likely to target military facilities (mainly ammunition depots), but gradually the vector shifted to oil or gas storage facilities, oil and gas processing plants, etc.
For example, in January, two-thirds of all verified strikes were against them.
According to RS’s estimates, Ukrainian drones have struck oil and gas production facilities and natural resource storage sites at least 25 times in the past six months.
