The European Union plans to adopt a 20th package of sanctions against Russia by February 24, 2026—the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Euractiv.

As the publication notes, citing an unnamed diplomat, the EU may present a new package of restrictive measures precisely on the anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“The diplomat said that the 20th package of EU sanctions is expected by February 24, the fourth anniversary of the war,” Euractiv writes.

According to the publication, Finland and Sweden are the initiators of the sanctions tightening.

They propose introducing new restrictions on the export of luxury goods to Russia, the servicing of oil tankers, and reducing quotas on Russian fertilizer imports.

The new restrictions will include travel bans and asset freezes for individuals and organizations involved in the abduction of children and ideological re-education.

Sanctions are also expected in the energy and banking sectors, and Brussels is considering banning imports of Russian uranium, which will affect Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency, Rosatom.
