Ukraine’s national men’s soccer team has received rivals for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Format of the qualifying tournament
the 54 European teams that will compete for 16 places at the World Cup are divided into 12 groups of 4 and 5 teams. the 12 group winners will automatically qualify for the final part of the tournament.
Another 12 teams that will take second place in their groups, along with the four best group winners of the UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 (provided they did not take second place or higher in their qualifying groups), will compete for the final through the butt mini-tournaments.
The qualifying tournament will begin in the spring of 2025. The second stage of the selection, the butt mini-tournaments, will take place in March 2026. It will include one-match semifinals and finals. Participants will be divided into four playoffs, the winners of which (four teams) will receive tickets to the 2026 World Cup.

Group of the national team of Ukraine
The Ukrainian national team will compete in Group D, which includes 4 teams:
- The winner of the France/Croatia match in the League of Nations;
- Ukraine;
- Iceland;
- Azerbaijan.
FIFA WORLD CUP 2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first ever to feature 48 teams. The tournament will be divided into 12 groups of four teams, of which the top two and the top eight third-place teams will advance to the 1/16 finals.
The matches of the 23rd World Cup will take place in 16 cities. In Canada, it will be Toronto and Vancouver, in Mexico – Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey, and in the United States – Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
The official opening of the tournament will take place on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, and the final will be held on July 19 in New York.
