NATO exercises

Today, on 10 September, military exercises codenamed Dragon-24 began in Poland as part of NATO’s large-scale Steadfast Defender-24 manoeuvres. This is the largest NATO exercise since the end of the Cold War.

About 20,000 troops and 3,500 pieces of equipment from 10 NATO countries, including about 15,000 Polish soldiers, will take part in the Polish exercise. The military from Spain, the United Kingdom, Turkey and Albania will also take part.

“Dragon-24 will test the ability of the Polish Armed Forces to respond to a potential multidimensional armed crisis. The exercise will cover land, air, sea and cyber operations.

The Dragon-24 exercise will be held in two stages: the first will simulate a crisis situation and the second will be a defensive operation. The key elements will be the crossing of allied troops across the Vistula River and the movement of the NATO Rapid Reaction Force.

At the same time, NATO’s Brilliant Jump-24 exercise is taking place in Poland and Germany to test the rapid deployment of high-readiness forces to the eastern flank of the alliance. Presumably, the airborne operation seen in the video is the very same “Brilliant Jump”.
