Starlink fails again at the frontline: military report interruptions
15 September 2025 09:32
on September 15, in the morning, a large-scale failure of the Starlink satellite Internet service occurred again on the front line in Ukraine. This was stated by the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“Communication problems are confirmed by both the military and specialized monitoring services.
What happened?
According to the Downdetector service, the outages began around 07:00 Kyiv time.

The outage affected users along the entire front line.

The commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert Brovdi, known by the call sign “Magyar,” said:
“Starlink is down again along the entire front. 07:28 am”.
When the connection was restored
As of 08:02, communication gradually began to be restored.

According to Brovdi, this is a repeat of a global failure in SpaceX‘s systems.

In July, the Starlink satellite Internet network was down for about 2.5 hours. The reason was the failure of key internal software services that manage the main network.
Why it matters
Starlink is one of the key tools for providing communications to the Ukrainian military at the front line. Any interruptions in its operation could affect the coordination of units and the control of unmanned systems.
Several alternatives to Starlink are currently available in Ukraine: the British OneWeb and French Eutelsat (which have joined forces); Swedish Satcube; and American AST SpaceMobile and Hughes Network Systems.
As a reminder, French satellite operator Eutelsat is negotiating with European governments to provide Ukraine with additional satellite communications capabilities.
Kyivstar is expected to launch Starlink Direct to Cell services with SMS and OTT messaging in the fourth quarter of 2025. The next stage will be voice and data services.
