Shot in the temple: an attempt was made on Iryna Farion’s life in Lviv (photo)

On 19 July, former MP and linguist Iryna Farion was shot in Lviv. This was reported by Lviv City Council deputy Ihor Zinkevych, [ komersant] reports.

“It is reported that a woman was shot on Masaryk Street. According to information, it is linguist Iryna Farion,” Zinkevich wrote on his Telegram channel.

The information was confirmed by journalist and host of the Espresso TV channel Marta Oliyarnyk. She wrote about the incident on her Facebook page.

“Irina Farion was shot. It is not known for sure whether the shot was fatal. An ambulance took her away. It happened on (Masaryk Street – ed.) 3. She was shot in the temple,” Oliyarnik said.

She added that people saw the attacker. He was working without gloves, and his weapon was without a silencer.

A photo allegedly taken at the scene of the crime even began to circulate on Ukrainian Telegram channels. In it, a woman who looks like teacher Farion is lying on a stretcher, which is being prepared to be pushed into an ambulance. Two men in rubber gloves are standing next to the woman.

Meanwhile, the National Police in Lviv confirmed the attempted assassination of Iryna Farion (although the security forces did not name the linguist’s name and surname). Law enforcement officials said that the 60-year-old public figure was shot at 19:30 on a street in Lviv. The woman was hospitalised with a gunshot wound to the head. Operatives are now working at the crime scene.

A little later, Times of Ukraine told its readers the details of the crime.

The attacker could be a 20-25-year-old man. When Farion came out of the house, he ran up and shot her in the head.

By the way, according to local media, the linguist and her family were planning to go on holiday to Bulgaria tomorrow.
